This is an interesting article, but I wondered at the date selection on their graphic. What happened in 1982? Of course you said: “Why, that’s when you graduated from high school, HorsemanZero!”. And you are correct. But more to the point, a recession ended. So the “big earners” who derive significant income from investments and economic activity (as opposed to labor wages) were pretty much bottomed out, thereby maximizing subsequent gains when taken as a percentage increase. And how about 2006? Well, that was the peak of the housing bubble. All of those evil 1%ers who had plowed their ill-gotten investment income into real estate peaked out there, just before the collapse. Meanwhile, the “99%” slogged along at the average rate. Remember kids, choosing your data set to produce the results you want is Lesson One.
This article from Forbes (via Drudge) made me wonder what the confluence of FDR’s, Bill Ayers’, Saul Alinsky’s and Jeremiah Wright’s influences on Obama will look like.
I cannot recommend this highly enough.

“Patriot act turns 10 years old today. And with it, they have accomplished: Full body pat-downs, Body scanners, increased police presence in public areas, increased policing power, TSA on highways, “Homeland Security” street lamps, increased usage of drones militarily and domestically, warrentless searches, the ability to completely ignore the Constitution in emergency times, emergencies are labeled at their own discretion, unconstitutional killings of Americans, full capability of closing businesses, full capability of confiscating whatever information necessary, executive declaration of war (without congressional approval) and some congressmen say, we don’t even know the half of it.
What would you choose if we could go back, liberty or the illusion of safety?”
I can think of a lot of additional freedoms that have been sacrificed on the altar of “safety”. As Ben Franklin said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” Notice it is the safety that is temporary, not the giving up of liberty.
So, do you feel safer?
This prompted me to wonder if maybe Obama’s whole purpose is to light the fuse which triggers the global system overload – Cloward-Piven writ large. Because look at all the institutions tottering on the edge of the precipice: finances are melting down globally; U.S. diplomacy is failing on several fronts – the Muslim world, the resurgence of Soviet-style Russia, China’s growing economic dominance, etc.; the education bureaucracy is producing young adults who are either too ignorant to be functional or educated in useless, undemanded fields; people are politically polarized to extremes. It seems as though everything is being pushed away from the center, toward the unstable edges.
